How do I get a civil union divorce?

In Illinois, a civil union is dissolved the same way a marriage is dissolved.  A party, or his or her attorney, files a petition for dissolution in court and the property and debt are equitably distributed.  Just like marriage, when a civil union is dissolved, maintenance (“alimony”) may be awarded if the legal requirements for maintenance are satisfied.
